About VNIT

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, Is a prestigious Institute of National Importance, established in 1960 as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), in honor of the eminent engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It became an NIT under the NIT Act in 2007. Located at the heart of Nagpur-the geographical center of India-and just 7-8km from the airport and railway station, VNIT enjoys excellent connectivity and sits close to Maharashtra’s rich mineral and mining belts, offering valuable industry links and field-study opportunities in mining, geology, and environmental engineering.
The sprawling 215-acre campus is recognized for its lush green environment, preserving diverse flora and fauna, and its sustainable infrastructure includes a 1MW solar power plant and a 600KLD sewage treatment plant. VNIT offers 9 UG, 27 PG, and PhD programs, supported by over 300 faculty members. The institute currently manages 93 ongoing R&D projects worth ₹60 crore. VNIT’s incubation cell, CIVN, has nurtured six startups. With over six decades of legacy, VNIT continues to excel in education, sustainability, innovation, and holistic development, cementing its status as a driving force for central India’s technological and environmental progress.

About Department of Mechanical Engineering

 Department of Mechanical Engineering is the oldest department started from the inception of the institute (1960). Over the last Six decades, we have grown our expertise and competence in the core Mechanical Engineering curriculum and research. The Department has one UG program (B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering), three PG programs (M. Tech in Industrial Engineering, CAD/CAM and Heat Power Engineering). The department also offers the PhD program. The department is devoted to quality teaching, outstanding research and development activities with its highly qualified 30 faculty members. Department has shown significant contribution in research in the domains like bio-medical engineering, CFD, robotics, solar energy and advanced machining. The department handles research projects funded by various agencies having total outlay of 10 Crores. Department has filed 31 patents and 4 are granted. Three technologies have been successfully transferred to industries. The department organizes training programs/workshops at regular intervals. In the recent past, department has hosted IPRoMM-2016, one of the reputed conferences in India. The vision of the department is to produce a quality human resource of a high stranded in mechanical engineering who can contribute favorably to the technological and socioeconomic development of the nation.

Ramtek Fort Temple

 

The temple’s architecture is a spectacle in itself, reflecting intricate carvings and grand structures dating back over 600 years. The temple complex is adorned with numerous shrines, ancient sculptures, and mesmerizing artwork that depict scenes from the Ramayana. A major highlight is the black stone idols of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana in their forest attire, which are believed to have been discovered in the nearby Dudhala tank.

Adding to its grandeur is the massive ‘OM’ structure at the foothills, stretching 350 feet in length, depicting various deities and stories from Hindu mythology. During festivals like Ram Navami and Kartik Purnima, the temple comes alive with grand processions, devotional songs, and rituals, making it an unforgettable experience for visitors.

Deekshabhoomi

 Deekshabhoomi is a sacred Buddhist site and memorial in Nagpur, India, where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and his followers converted to Buddhism on October 14, 1956. It is a significant center for Navayana Buddhism and a symbol of social justice, featuring a large stupa and a complex with a meditation hall and library.   

Tadoba National Park

 Tadoba National Park, also known as the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, India, and is a popular destination for wildlife safaris, particularly for tiger sightings. It is a significant protected area with a rich variety of wildlife, including tigers, sloth bears, and unique bird species. The best time to visit is during the winter months (October to February) when the weather is cool and pleasant.   

Gorewada International Zoological Park

 Located within the City of Nagpur & prepared with the assistance of international consultants, it’s the most important International Zoological Park In India and is open for citizens, The Zoo is known as after the dignifiedly famous late politician Balasaheb Thackeray and its cover a neighborhood of roughly 1914 hectares. Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Maharashtra has “Indian Safari” in its full glory!! Four stages of awe and wonder!!! LEOPARD SAFARI, sloth bear SAFARI, HERBIVOROUS SAFARI AND TIGER within the near future it'll encompass African SAFARI, night SAFARI, and tribal trial too what makes Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park an amiable place for both visitors and inhabitants are the open enclosures during which animals are kept. These open enclosures are created to resemble natural habitats.
